Smallpox has been one of the scourges of mankind until it was supposedly eradicated in 1980. But there are indications that it is being preserved for use in bioterrorism and is considered a major threat by the US government. This course teaches you about the organism that causes smallpox, its transmission, its laboratory and clinical diagnosis, its clinical manifestations, its treatment, its prevention by vaccination, the significant side-effects of the vaccination, and the bioterror parameters of the disease. Two fictional and interactive scenarios are presented for review. The course is geared to health care workers, but is clear enough for the public. It contains videos, narrations, and animations.
