He received a BA in English Literature from Yale (where he set an academic record), an M.D. from Boston University, a degree in Executive Management from the Anderson School of Business at UCLA, and
has partially completed a degree at UCLA in International Trade. He is an ophthalmologist. He also
has received two patents in ophthalmology and filed six more in other
areas such as software, optics, antioxidants, and energy, has worked with the World Health Organization in Geneva, and
in a lab at the National Institutes of Health in Washington, D.C., that included
a Nobel Prize winner. He has written scientific and popular articles, and has worked as a newspaper reporter. He
helped Dr. Robbins edit one of the editions of Robbins' "Pathology"
textbook for readability. He wrote an article on humor for the Massachusetts
Review. He has written and edited hundreds of books, e-learning courses, and CDs. He
co-authored “Link to Learn”—an article on e-learning in healthcare
published in Managed Healthcare Executive, March 2005.
Learning about foreign languages and cultures has always been an enthusiasm of his; he translated a Russian novel into English in high school and is multilingual. He
has programmed his own patient records database.
He was certified in one of the Microsoft server products. He has experience in
theater and television, including acting, directing, and stage managing. He
